Hi! My name is Mrs. Hillary Billingsley, and I am your reading resource teacher at South Anna Elementary School. This is my twelth year at South Anna, and I know it is going to be a very exciting year as we engage in Deep SEA (Setting goals, Exerting effort, Achieving academic success) Learning!
About Me I live in Montpelier with my husband, Jamie, and our children, Caroline (a fourth grader at SAES) and Camden (a first grade Spirit Rider!) We have a golden retriever named Maggie and two cats, Daisy & South Anna. Yes, I named my cat after our school because I found her in the parking lot in 2006. My family and I enjoy cheering for the University of Virginia Cavaliers, the Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles. We also enjoy traveling and, of course, reading together! Fun facts: I grew up in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area and moved to Virginia in 2001 to attend UVA. I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees and met my husband at that school in Charlottesville. I am a member of the board of the Richmond Area Reading Council and serve as an accreditation consultant/ Alumni Board advisor at Randolph-Macon College's Department of Education.
My Responsibilities: As the South Anna Elementary Reading Specialist, I serve the students, parents, and staff-- the whole community! I work with students who benefit from extra instruction or from intervention to become stronger readers; I educate parents about school reading assessment, reading incentives, and reading achievement; and I collaborate with staff in utilizing "best practices" in reading instruction, making instructional decisions using student data, and creating opportunities for students to succeed! I also serve as the liaison between the school district and the school with respect to policies and practices relating to Language Arts and Reading. I am the school's PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) coordinator, the a member and former chair of the School Improvement Team, and the Language Arts Curriculum Specialist. WOW!
It is my pleasure to serve the Spirit Rider community in many capacities, and I look forward to working with you and your child this year.
